Will community colleges help solve the skills gap?

Reported by Inside Higher Ed, Unmudl is a new platform offering noncredit courses from an initial cohort of five community college partners, meant to provide local employers with affordable and online ways to upskill their employees.

For instance, an employer could customize an educational program path for their company, function and role, contributed by courses and programs from a variety of partner institutions.

The takeaway? While this community college solution may be a more affordable one for employers’ upskilling challenges, will the onus be on the employer to develop the pathways in order to not show favoritism to any specific community college partner, and will this then become a sticking point universities are currently able to solve for with their existing deeper and more personal partnerships?
