The limitations of COVID contact tracing on college campuses

The limitations of COVID contact tracing on college campuses are becoming more apparent.

Reported by Inside Higher Ed, at many campuses, students are not getting notified if their classmate tests positive for COVID. Specifically, because if the classroom is set up for social distancing, the chance of spread becomes theoretically low.

The takeaway? There is not yet firm scientific consensus on what precisely close contact looks like. But therefore, we may not be meeting our students’ expectations for when we will notify them that they may be at risk and need testing.
