Who owns student outcomes at your institution?
Reported by Education Dive, 900 responses to an Educause Center for Analysis and Research (ECAR) report show that often, no single unit owns student outcomes – and therefore, that creates a huge risk that no one does. While Institutional Research, Student Affairs, and Information Technology all commonly assume different responsibilities on campus, from tracking attendance and academic performance to return on investment post-graduation.
The takeaway? Effective data governance of student outcomes first requires identifying the questions we want answered and the data we want tracked, ensuring IT partners with us on the front end, and that we normalize the data for effectively tracking outcomes across the institution.
