Does job earnings data influence a student’s choice of major?
Reported by Campus Technology, a recent study by Rutgers University proves the answer to surprisingly be ‘no’.
While this study shows that students do have optimistic expectations for their post-degree wage earnings – believing they’d earn more than they actual will – this newfound knowledge doesn’t seem to sway students toward a major change.
The takeaway? Students are more driven to passion and personal interest than personal financial outcomes. So how can we make sure we empower students with the knowledge necessary to appropriately budget for their future, knowing we’re not throwing cold water on their career dreams?
