Higher Ed’s Response to Amazon’s New HQ2 Headquarters

How is higher education responding to Amazon’s new HQ2 headquarters announcement?

Reported by Education Dive, many institutions are quickly building out capacity in order to meet the educational needs of the 25,000 tech jobs Amazon estimates creating.

Virginia Tech University announced plans to build out a 1-million square foot, 1-billion dollar Innovation Campus in Alexandria, Virginia, and George Mason University announced plans to add 500,000 square feet to their Arlington, Virginia campus as well, and add a School of Computing.

While many of these initiatives were in the works, the Amazon announcement has absolutely helped these institutions turn on the gas to take advantage of the economic and enrollment potential of Amazon’s partnership.

The takeaway? While Amazon-sized opportunities don’t come around all too often, there are hundreds of corporations near our institutions who need the same help educating their workforces. So how can we better reach out and partner with them to do so?

May you continue to fight the good enrollment growth fight at your institution today, and we’ll see you again tomorrow.
