Competency-Based Education (CBE) continues to spark conversations, and Helix Education continues to be recognized for our insight in this area. Most recently, Steve Pappageorge, our Chief Product Officer, has been invited to speak on “The Wide Spectrum of CBE Programs” at Cengage Learning’s Career Advisory Board Meeting which takes place today, February 4th in Phoenix, AZ.
Steve’s extensive experience with CBE started during his tenure at DeVry University where he led the university’s CBE initiative and initial MOOC offerings. His institutional insight will give meeting attendees a unique and informative perspective on how CBE impacts the following:
o Credit hour vs. Title IV (Direct assessment)
o Recruitment strategy (B2B vs. Direct to student)
o Technology tied to tracking engagement
o The changing role of faculty
o Need for instructor training
o Assessment and demonstration for employment
As more and more schools begin to pursue CBE programs, Steve’s presentation will help attendees understand adoption considerations for implementing CBE, including the roles of instructional methods, integration strategies, instructional design, course creation, and student support. He will also talk about the role of data and outcomes in a successful CBE model.
Steve joins a great line-up of speakers at the board meeting focused on emerging education dynamics and engagement strategies, including different delivery models; technology to support recruitment, retention, compliance and completion; and student motivation.
