Has our current online education experience hit a growth ceiling?

Has higher ed’s current online education experience hit a growth ceiling?

Reported by Education Dive, the growth rate of students taking at least one online class has slowed – with 35% of students in 2018 taking at least one distance class, up only slightly from 33% in 2017.

Is the growth of online education running up against similar roadblocks as MOOCs? An incredible solution for the incredibly self-motivated student, but not yet adaptive and responsive enough to scale to the masses?

The takeaway? Sometimes, the promise of online education still feels like only a promise. What will be needed to make sure that the original hope of an increasingly higher quality and increasingly affordable online offering continues to become more and more accessible and completable as well?

May you continue to fight the good enrollment growth fight at your institution today, and we’ll see you again tomorrow.
