Enrollment fell at more than half of colleges this fall.

Reported by Education Dive, slightly more than half of college presidents surveyed by the American Council on Education (ACE) claim that their total enrollment is lower this fall than a year ago.

And since COVID was likely not yet top of mind when determining this year’s budget forecast, these institutions have tough decisions to make, and are already doing so. 61% of these institutions are freezing hiring. 54% have frozen pay.

The takeaway? Will these smaller stakes decisions be enough in the short-term until we can get back to our original enrollment growth plans? We’ll find out.
