Do our students need the humanities now more than ever?

Reported by Inside Higher Ed, Coursera’s biggest growth in courses this year came from a 780% increase in the humanities, including the most popular overall course on the platform being The Science of Well Being.

The takeaway? Perhaps we’re so focused on making sure students come back this fall when we need to be more concerned about what they’re learning when they do. Is this an opportunity for higher education to turn back just a bit from employer preparation and once again toward developing Aristotelian philosopher-kings and queens?
