Developing a Digital Quad to Support Social Learning

How do we replicate the informal social learning that takes place in dorm rooms and quads for our online students?

Reported by EdSurge, online students are increasingly disconnected from the channels that spark social learning, interaction, and educational development. The late-night dorm experiences. The serendipitous bumping into new people, opportunities, and experiences on the quad.

The takeaway? While our LMS’ provide an opportunity for these back-channel conversations to happen, as do public spaces like Twitter, do we need to design a new digital quad for the 21st century learner specifically to foster these interactions? And will these be institution-specific initiatives, or require a massive EdTech solution ready to be developed?

May you continue to fight the good enrollment growth fight at your institution today, and we’ll see you again tomorrow.
