To prevent campus closures from COVID, would colleges need to test students every other day?
Reported by Education Dive, a new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests such, and that after modeling thousands of scenarios with an institution of 5,000 students, the incredibly high bar of every other day testing with results in 8 hours may be the only way to successfully contain an outbreak.
The takeaway? Many institutions are currently only testing and isolating students after they self-report as ill. But the journals’ study of thousands of different models suggests that these campuses may really be crossing their fingers in doing so.
