College endowment returns underperformed last year, too

College endowment returns underperformed last year, too, returning only 1.8% year-over-year.

Reported by Inside Higher Ed, while enrollment revenue suffered significantly across higher ed this past academic year, most college endowments also didn’t benefit from the tech stock market rally from last year, since higher ed endowments are more broadly invested in bonds and other asset classes that didn’t perform quite as well.

The takeaway? It’s hard to find a financial silver lining on this tough year for higher education. Fingers crossed for a good news fall.
