Can our online communities become as powerful as an in-person campus experience?

Reported by Higher Ed Dive, while online learning can transform opportunity for those juggling many responsibilities and who are far from a physical campus location, our online students do have lower engagement and retention rates.

WGU Labs is trying to build a solution in The College Innovation Network, a network of 10 institutions leveraging technology and learning off each other’s curves to design better technology and better student experiences. One institution, Rio Salado College, built an online community through EdTech provider InScribe, and found significant increases in a student’s sense of belonging.

The takeaway? What if we could have all of the good parts of online education, while forgoing  the isolation and disengagement?
